When did I feel the strongest urge today?

Written by Muneeb Rana · Medically reviewed by Safi Allah Khan · Last updated 24 October 2026

Quick answer: NoFap journal prompts are short questions that help you notice triggers, track mood and stay connected to your reasons for quitting. Pick a category (morning, evening, urge, after a slip, milestones) and get a random prompt or a 30-day set to print. Five minutes of writing a day is enough to start seeing patterns.

How to use the NoFap journal prompts

  1. Choose a category.
  2. Press New prompt or 30-day set.
  3. Write for 3–5 minutes; bullet points are fine.
  4. Note your streak and mood (0–10).
  5. Once a week, reread and circle repeating themes.
  6. Turn themes into rules in your relapse prevention plan.

Sample prompts

Morning: What's one thing that could make today hard? What will I do if it happens? Evening: When did I feel the strongest urge today? What was going on? Urge: What am I actually needing right now: rest, food, company, a break? After a slip: What was the first warning sign I ignored? What's one change for next time? Milestone: What's different since day 1? What do I want the next 30 days to look like?

prompt = random(category_prompts, exclude=recent_7)
set_30 = shuffle(category mix: 10 morning, 10 evening, 5 urge, 5 milestone)

Worked example

On day 12, Adam's evening entry notes a strong urge at 10:30 pm after an argument. His urge prompt answer: 'I needed to calm down, not porn.' A week of entries shows conflict and late nights keep appearing, so he adds an if-then rule: after an argument, walk for 15 minutes before picking up the phone. He checks the HALT check-in when it happens.

Why writing helps

Writing slows you down and makes patterns visible. It supports the noticing skills used in mindfulness-based relapse prevention (Bowen et al., 2014). Keep journals private, especially on shared devices; see are quit-porn apps private?.
